Centre for Drawing

Centre for Drawing

The College has established the Centre for Drawing in Autumn 2000 to provide organisational support for research into the activity, practice and scholarship of drawing, and its dynamic relationship with issues in contemporary art practice. The Centre for Drawing hosts a series of artists' residencies accompanied by exhibitions, lectures, studio visits available to students, and the publication of two books. The Centre supports exhibitions of staff and student drawing research; in 2003 the administrative centre for the annual Jerwood Drawing Prize was relocated to Wimbledon College of Art, bringing the major national prize in contemporary drawing together with the Centre for Drawing, and further enhancing the College's reputation in contemporary drawing research and practice. The project is delivered through partnership between Wimbledon College of Art and The Jerwood Charity. Additionally, the College has been successful in further developing drawing, lens and digitally based research through The Observatory, a dedicated space generously supported by the Rootstein Hopkins Foundation. The foundation has also assisted in creating a Rootstein Hopkins Research Fellowship, based at the school, assessing the impact of its charitable legacy.
