Practical Information

Credits

Undergraduate students on the Study Abroad Programs can arrange to transfer credits for their studies back to their home College or University by prior arrangement with their faculty. Before applying you must speak to officials at your home college and ensure that credits you earn at university of the Arts London are recognized by your home institution.

Each unit is expressed according to the US equivalent academic credit system at one, two, three, four or six credits each. However transcripts will award the credits according to the UAL credit system (see below). A typical week will include your selected classes interspersed with short and extended periods for private study and research.

Assessment and Grades

Assignments on the Study Abroad programs are designed to enable you to demonstrate your progress and your willingness to incorporate new concepts and ideas into your work. A range of assessment criteria is used across the courses depending on the subject area.

The UAL Credit System

All undergraduate courses at the University of the Arts London are credit rated. You are awarded credit points when learning is successfully assessed and you have completed a learning unit. The smallest units in the scheme have 10 credit points and each individual credit point normally equates to 10 hours of learning.

Learning occurs in 3 ways:

  • Taught or tutor directed learning.
  • Learning through access to College facilities.
  • Self-directed study and learning time.

Assessed work includes project work, preparatory materials, your log and written assignments, and other work as appropriate. 120 credits are available for each year of study (generally 40 credits per term), and in order to gain an honours degree, 360 credits must be obtained in total.

Transcripts

At the end of your time here, we will provide you with a Record of Study and Achievement, which gives details of the Units you have studied with the number of credits, and your percentage grades.
